VPN for Windows 7 through 11

Bebra VPN has one installer for every Windows from 7 SP1 to 11, 32-bit and 64-bit alike. On older versions it may set up .NET Framework before the app itself, and the table below shows where.

What depends on your version

VersionGood to know
Windows 11Windows tends to tuck the app’s icon under the hidden icons arrow by the clock.
Windows 10Any build works. On the very first one, 1507, the installer adds .NET Framework 4.6.1 before anything else.
Windows 8 and 8.1If .NET Framework is out of date, the installer gets a newer one from Microsoft, which takes 10–20 minutes. Windows RT isn’t supported.
Windows 7Service Pack 1 is required, and without it setup won’t start. The installer also adds .NET Framework by itself when needed.

From download to connected

  1. Open the installer

Download Bebra.exe with the button above and run it. Accept the User Account Control prompt, because the VPN won’t run without administrator rights.

  2. Wait for setup to finish

On Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and the very first Windows 10 build, the installer may download .NET Framework from Microsoft first. If it does, it warns you this takes 10 to 20 minutes.

  3. Pick a flag

The app opens by itself, already in a guest account. Until that account has a subscription, a flag opens Buy Bebra VPN, which also offers Already have a subscription? → Sign in to account if you’ve paid before. With a subscription, clicking a flag turns the VPN on, and clicking the same tile again turns it off.

Update, reinstall, remove

Updates. When an update is released, the app tells you. The update runs through a regular Windows installer, so Windows asks for permission again. If nothing seems to happen after you click Update available, that permission prompt is probably waiting on the taskbar.

Reinstalling and removing. A guest account is tied to this PC, and without an e-mail you may lose access to it on reinstall. So if you’re on a guest account, go to Account → Link e-mail before you remove or reinstall the app. If you used e-mail, Telegram or Google, sign in the same way afterwards. If the account was created with Apple on an iPhone, use the iPhone’s Account → Sign in on another device for a one-time code, then on the PC go to Account → Sign out → Sign in with code.

A fresh Bebra.exe installs over the old version, so there’s no need to remove it first. In the Windows list of installed apps, it’s called Bebra. Uninstalling doesn’t cancel a subscription bought on the website. You do that in your Dashboard.

Installs and versions

Is the Windows 11 version different from the Windows 7 one?

No, it’s the same file. The only difference is what the installer adds on an older system, such as .NET Framework.

After a Windows upgrade, the app wants to be reinstalled

That happens when a PC moves from Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or an early Windows 10 build to a current Windows 10 or to 11. The VPN won’t connect until you click Reinstall the app in the “Windows has been updated” window.

My Windows account isn’t an administrator

The installer sets Bebra VPN up for every user on the PC, so it can’t finish without an administrator password. Switching accounts isn’t needed, though. The password can go straight into the User Account Control window.

How do I see which version I have?

Open the About tab. The version number is shown there, which helps if you contact support.
